GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Johnson County used a big eight run fourth to top Walters State 12-7 in game 10 of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
Walters State (53-12, 1-1 JUCO) jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Kenny Cox. Johnson County (64-3, 2-0 JUCO) answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Colin Coonradt launched a game-tying three-run shot to right field. After Logan Groh’s solo homer gave Johnson County a 4-3 advantage in the third, Walters State briefly tied the game again in the fourth on an RBI single from Miles Shore.
The game turned in the bottom of the fourth inning as Johnson County erupted for eight runs on seven hits to take control. Brayden Giesler delivered the biggest blow with a three-run double, while Logan Groh, Boston Bruce, Briggs Roe, and Ashton Hartwig all added RBI hits during the rally. Walters State attempted to chip away at the deficit with two runs in the fifth and a solo homer by Drew Blalock in the eighth, but Johnson County’s pitching staff held firm over the final innings.
Johnson County finished with 12 runs on 12 hits, led by Groh, Giesler, and Coonradt, who combined for eight RBIs. Walters State totaled seven runs, with Cox and Blalock each homering in the loss.
