GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Midland and Harford battled through a dramatic back-and-forth matchup that featured multiple momentum swings and late-inning fireworks before Midland secured a 13-10 victory in game nine of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
Midland (52-11, 2-1 JUCO) jumped out early with back-to-back solo home runs from Dylon Myrow and Bammer Maes in the first inning, but Harford (54-8, 1-2 JUCO) answered immediately with a four-run frame highlighted by James Asmus’ grand slam.
Midland steadily chipped away, tying the game at 4-4 in the fifth before reclaiming the lead with a three-run sixth and a seventh capped by Jorge Gil’s three-run homer. Harford refused to go away, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the seventh, including Jack Fitzpatrick’s grand slam, cutting it to one, then tying the game in the eighth on Derek Poole’s RBI double.
In the ninth, Midland responded under pressure as Jorge Gil sparked. After doubling to center field to lead off the inning, he would later score off an error. AJ Velarde added a pair of insurance runs with a double of his own to left center.
Midland’s bullpen closed out the final inning to complete the resilient comeback win in a game that featured 23 combined runs and five home runs.
