GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Trailing 3-0 through six, Miami Dade erupted over the final three innings to top LSU Eunice 11-3 in game five of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
A six-run seventh — capped by Willy Mendez’s three-run homer and an RBI double from Denixon Suarez — erased the deficit. Miami Dade (38-18-1, 1-0 JUCO) then added five insurance runs in the eighth, highlighted by Suarez’s RBI double, Adrian Areizaga’s run-scoring double and Mendez’s two-RBI double.
Key performers: Willy Mendez (three-run HR, two-run double), Denixon Suarez (two-run double, two RBI), Adrian Areizaga (RBI double) and Jendy Gonzalez (two-run double, key hits).
LSU Eunice (46-12, 0-1 JUCO) scored early on a Caleb Hastings RBI single and two-run sixth-inning rally but couldn’t contain Miami Dade’s late offense.
