GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Miami Dade rallied late to defeat Blinn College 7-3 after breaking open a tight game in the final two innings of game 13 of the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
Miami Dade (39-18, 2-0 JUCO) struck first in the second inning on an RBI double from Leamsi Montanez before Blinn answered with a solo home run from Zachary Tuxhorn in the fourth. The teams traded runs again in the fifth to remain tied at 2-2 heading into the late innings.
Blinn (46-13, 2-1 JUCO) briefly took its first lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Benji Barrera, but Miami Dade responded immediately in the eighth as Adrian Areizaga tied the game with a solo homer before Jendy Gonzalez delivered the go-ahead RBI double.
Miami Dade added insurance in the ninth with three more runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Samuel Castro and run-producing plate appearances from Gonzalez and Miguel Colmenares. Areizaga paced the offense with three hits, including a homer and double, while Miami Dade pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts to secure the win.
