In Mathews’ 12 years at Indian Hills CC, Centerville, Iowa, his squad amassed a 457-172 record and appeared in four JUCO series. He was named District Coach of the Year in 1977, 1978 1980 and 1992. Mathews son, Jonathon, was named to the JUCO all tournament team at first base in 1992. Mathews managed various professional teams in the 1980’s and was a position coach position with the Colorado Rockies.
