From 1928 to 1940 Gallagher, a Chicago sports writer from, spent the rest of his life as an executive in professional baseball, retiring in 1974.  He was General Manager of Chicago Cubs, Supervisor of Philadelphia Phillies scouting, and from 1963 to 1974, was Assistant to the Commissioner of Baseball.  Gallagher was instrumental in furthering amateur baseball and a long-time friend of JUCO World Series.
