Jerry Halstead won 1,295 games in his 33-year coaching career at John A. Logan (Ill.), with a .646 winning percentage. The Volunteers reached the JUCO World Series in 1992 and 2002, earning the Homa Thomas Sportsmanship Award after their second appearance. Halstead, who retired in 2016, was the Region 24 coach of the year nine times, the Great Lakes District coach of the year in 1992 and the Northern District coach of the year in 2002. In 1989, he was the head coach of the United States team that played in the third annual Mexico Olympic Festival.
