Champs
Dixie State College from St. George, UT won its first ever NJCAA World Series title when the Rebels defeated the mighty Texans from San Jacinto North 4-3 in the finals. It was the 14th appearance in Grand Junction and the 11th finale for the Gators from Houston but the Rebels held onto their dream and took home the trophy after their sixth trip to Colorado, with a 5-1 record.
MVP
When Matt Spring of Dixie State College, hit the ball, his team won the game. It was a simple formula and it worked for the Rebels. Dixie won four straight games before Spring had an “O-for” (0-3) in the Friday contest, but rebounded in the championship final to help his team win its first title and was voted MVP. The 6-2, 220 pound catcher from Sandy, UT knocked in 10 runs, slammed two homers and finished 12 for 23 at the plate for a .480 average in six games. During the regular season, the freshman hit at a .353 clip as the Rebels won the Western District title to qualify for the National JUCO Tournament.
