Walters State Community College of Morristown, TN, is not exactly a household name in JUCO circles but the Senators made the most of their fourth trip to Grand Junction by winning the National Junior College World Series Tournament with a 5-1 mark. The 2006 squad slipped past Yavapia, AZ, 7-6 in a Saturday finale, after taking a 9-0 whipping in the Friday night contest.

Pitcher Jack Tilghman of Walters State won two awards for his superior effort on the mound and led the Senators to the championship of the 49th annual Alpine Bank National Junior College World Series Baseball Tournament. The 6-2, 205-pound, freshman went 2-0, allowed nine hits, four walks and struck out 10 in 18 inning. The Pennsylvania native had a 1.00 ERA and entered the tournament with a sparkling 11-0 record. Not only was he voted the MVP but was also voted the outstanding pitcher for the 5-1 Senators
