Passing of GJPD Commander Greg Assenmacher
The hearts of the members of the Grand Junction Police Department are full of sadness, with the passing of Commander Greg Assenmacher. Cmdr. Assenmacher died of apparent natural causes at his home on Tuesday evening.
Cmdr. Assenmacher was legendary within the department. He started at the GJPD in 1981 as a police officer, and held nearly every position possible during his notable career, including narcotics investigator, detective, school resource officer, SWAT officer, bike team, Community Advocacy, and Field Training Officer. He became a commander in 2003, and led numerous investigations. Some of his most recent high-profile cases include the 2006 Robert Burke bombings, the 2008 Fuji Massage bust, and the arrest of Jerry Nemnich in 2009 for the 30-year-old murders of Linda and Kelly Benson.
“The world needs more people like Greg Assenmacher,” said Grand Junction Police Chief John Camper. “Commander Assenmacher has served as one of the most outstanding representatives of the Grand Junction Police Department that we have had. Through volunteer work, Crime Stoppers, JUCO, multiple Honor Flights for World War II veterans, and countless other outreach activities, his efforts on behalf of the citizens of this community are unparalleled. His commitment to solving crime and making Grand Junction a safer city will not soon be matched. Most important, we all knew him as one of the kindest and most giving men that we have had the pleasure of knowing. He will be deeply missed for years to come.”

"The community is gearing up for another baseball season at the newly renovated Suplizio Field, but the renovations are still being paid off.
JUCO members counted on the community to raise or donate one million dollars for the renovations and that money came by way of personal and business donations, and grants.
Challenger Baseball received another check for their good work and JUCO is proud to be a partner with them during our World Series Games

Events are nominated by the readers of SportsTravel , the sports world's event magazine. Humble ISD is a small school district in northeast Houston. 10 miles by 10 miles square. 3 players in this year's World Series are from Humble ISD. Austin Salter, Soph. pitcher from Cisco, went to Kingwood Park. Daniel Stumpf, Soph. pitcher from San Jac, went to Atascocita. And Trevor Odom, Fresh. pitcher from Iowa Western, went to Kingwood High School.

Mr. Buller,
I am the person you gave the JUCO reserved seating tickets to on Memorial Day -- i.e., the 2:00 p.m. game on Monday.
I just wanted to say how much my son Christian and I appreciated the tickets. Christian is 7 years old and he had a great time. Monday's game was part of his 7th Birthday which was on Saturday, May 26th. It was really his first JUCO game as he doesn't remember attending his only other JUCO game which was several years earlier. It was a real thrill for us to have such great seats with great weather in a beautiful stadium.
I think it's these little acts of kindness that make JUCO so special and keep the "hometown" feel of the tournament. We never want to be so big that we lose all those little things that make this a one-of-a-kind event. JUCO is really something for everyone in Mesa County to be really proud of !
Thanks again for making my little boy's special day that much more special.
